Castle of Sperlinga

Sperlinga Castle (''Castello di Sperlinga''), located in Sperlinga, near the North Sea coast of Sicily, is a medieval fortification headquarters built by the Normans, consisting of a series of subterranean caves beneath a manor that became a princely castle, called also in the ancient time ''La Rocca''.
The village of Sperlinga was built by Prince Giovanni Natoli (Jeanfort de Nanteuil or Johannes-Fortis de Nantolio also called de Nantouillet), and it was classified as one of ''The Most Beautiful Villages in Italy''.〔( Sperlinga Born from the Rocks. "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL VILLAGES IN ITALY" was founded through the incentive of the Tourism Council of the ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). )〕
The composer Richard Wagner retired to Sperlinga and inspired by the castle in the rock to compose the ''Parsifal'' (1882).
